Haven't Invested In Custom Packaging? How It Saves Resources, Money, And Time

Isabella Lynch

As more and more Americans switch their purchases from in-store browsing and buying to online ordering, your shipping tools and methods becomes even more important. If you aren't currently using custom packaging, this is the time to make the switch. Why? Here are a few key ways it saves resources, money, and time.

How It Saves Resources

Traditional, one-size-fits-all packaging tends to result in significant waste. If you use a standard box, your product packaging likely needs more free-standing protective material. Attempts to make packages fit properly into those standard units may also require cutting and trimming, addition of other outside containers, and additional materials to keep everything well sealed.

If your inside and outside packaging is designed specifically to house and protect the product, none of this excess is necessary. That's good for your reputation, good for your company's use of resources, and good for the environment.

How It Saves Money

The more resources you have to put into preparing a single package for shipping, the more money it costs. Without the right interior protection within shipping boxes, you'll have to spend money on other protective products. And you may have to use double containers or buy more expensive shipping boxes to do the job.

Ill-fitting packaging also causes shipping itself to become more expensive. If you have to add more filler to keep bottles from rolling around inside the box, that packaging will have to be larger. Larger units cost more to ship. If shipping costs are eating away at your bottom line, custom packing might be an easy solution.

How It Saves Time

How much faster and more efficiently would your production and shipping departments be if each product fit exactly into its own snug, custom-made package? Gone would be the days of finding the right boxes, filling them with protective material, and securing everything more than once.

Beyond the actual shipping personnel, this saves time in other department. Your quality control will be easier because there is less to go wrong. Your pickers will spend less time time replacing broken goods for customers. And purchasing and accounting staff will spend less time ordering and managing additional supplies.

Could your company benefit from less waste, less expense, or less time used in the shipping process? If so, this is the best time to reassess your packaging plan. As 2020 progresses, it's likely that there will be more stay-at-home orders, more social distancing, and more use of online ordering. Be ready by putting your products in their best position with custom protective packaging
