3 Tips For Shipping Your Electronics Safety And Securely

Isabella Lynch

If you have electronics that you need to ship, here are three tips that will ensure that you ship them safely and that they get to their destination unharmed.

#1 Separate The Accessories & Main Items

One of the first things you should do is separate the accessories and the main items. For example, if you are shipping a tablet, you are going to want to wrap up and label the cord, cover and protective face plate separately from the tablet itself.

Taking these items, wrapping them up, and labeling them separately will help keep all of the items safe during the shipping process. It will also make it easier on whomever you are shipping the items to to unwrap the box, take out the items, and put everything together. All the pieces are more likely to stay secure when separately wrapped and labeled before being packaged together in a box.

#2 Secure The Battery

If you can detach the battery, you should do so before shipping the item. For example, with many computers and phones, you can remove the battery from the device. The United States Postal service and most shipping companies have specific requirements that you must meet in order to ship batteries. You need to make sure that all of the terminals will not short circuit while being shipped. In order to ensure that the terminals will not short circuit, you need to wrap the batter in a material that is both non-conducive and insulated, and also enclose it within its own packaging within the large box so that the terminals of the battery are not exposed.

This is to safe guard against potential accidents with your battery during the shipping process.

#3 Make Sure Everything Is Secure

Finally, you want to make sure that everything inside of the package is secure. You don't want items to be able to move around inside of the package. You should fill in extra space in the larger box that all of your smaller boxes for your battery, main item and accessories are in with packaging material so that nothing rattles around. Air pillows are great as they don't cost that much and really keep things in place. They are also more environmentally friendly than other packing material, such as packing peanuts.

When shipping electronics, you want to package up all the the individual components, including the battery, separately and then place all of the items together in a larger box. Then, you want to make sure that everything is secure and will not move around. For more information, contact a business such as Packaging Center Inc.
